From bridal party to family/friend, weather your the worlds best public speaker who’s been practicing for weeks or found up your up no more than two min earlier, here are our top five tips on how to give a killer toast, mic drop and all!
One.
Avoid the inside jokes
We know you were given this honor because of how close you are to the couple. Meaning you’ve probably known one of them forever and have endless memories. While you can always count on in inside joke to get a laugh, filling your speech with them can leave guests dazed and confused. Avoid the “you had to be there jokes” and instead opt for funny stories where you know the deeper meaning, but others will still get a nice laugh.
Two.
Practice, Practice, Practice
Giving a killer toast takes practice! In front of the mirror, in front of your pet or significant other, while you’re on a walk or just doing the dishes. Reading through not only gets your brain familiar with what you’re going to say, but it helps you work out any of the kinks and shake off the nerves.
Three.
K.I.S.S
We’re taking it back to middle school english here and saying KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID! There isn’t a need to write some long intricate speech about every second you have ever spent with the couple. Talk about the basics, how you met, a few funny bits and round it all out with your best wishes. Look to keep you speech 3 minutes or less.
Four.
Put the phone down
I know we’re all attached to our phones, but there is something so nice about a photo of you reading off a piece of paper. When you write it on paper it also makes for a great keepsake for your favorite couple to cherish forever.
Five.
Have fun with it
This isn’t your college English final, you’re not give the State of the Union Address. You’re talking to friends and family about a couple you all cherish and love. Joke, laugh, talk about how you’re nervous, the funner you make it the longer you’ll hold everyones attention. Don’t feel like you need to fill a cookie cutter mold. After all your goal is a killer toast followed mic drop included.
